Sadly, the village pub, The Elm Tree Inn, over 300 years old, closed in Dec 2023. In a village meeting in April 2024, the residents of Langton Herring decided to attempt to raise money and buy the Pub. A highly motivated and enthusiastic Steering Committee was established and began the process of raising the necessary funds. I am delighted to report that sufficient funds have now been raised to make an offer on the freehold of the Elm Tree. The offer has been accepted by the current owner, subject to contract.
In the meantime, more fundraising is required to reach the final target to complete both the purchase of the pub and the key fittings and to cover start up costs. £500000 has already been reached, another £100000 is required to get us over the line.
Providing the necessary funds can be reached, the plan is to recruit a suitable Publican and hopefully open by July 2025
