If you fancy somewhere a bit different with fantastic views across Weymouth Bay towards Portland visit Billy Winters just past Ferry Bridge on the causeway over to Portland Bill. This is a rather rustic/retro/highly individual bar/diner which has been fashioned out of a pre-fab building with seating inside and outside on the pebbly beach. The food is excellent ranging from delicious meat dishes, a good vegetarian selection including vegetarian and beetroot burgers and pizzas straight from the wood fired oven. Their basic fish and chips are fantastic and their sweet potato chips are delicious – beautifully small and crisp! All meals are served on palm leaf plates with bio-degradable wooden cutlery. If you don’t fancy a full blown meat they also do wonderful looking cakes and coffees.
They do a very tempting selection of cocktails, locally produced beers and soft drinks and for those of us with more simple tastes – Estrella lager on tap!
There is a roped off section for parking, however you do need to mention this inside and the bar staff will give you a free ticket to display. Also it can get busy and probably fair to mention that you need to queue up at the bar to order drinks and food – once ordered they will be brought to you at your table.
However if the weather is nice it really does make a wonderful venue – the kids can play down at the waters edge, hire kayaks and paddle boards next door to the restaurant whilst the grown ups can supervise sitting outside sipping beer and cocktails!
